Rods

Rods are available in different materials and can be shaped and cut according to your needs. Vanéflon can execute various production techniques to meet your requirements: compression molding, horizontal molding, hot molding and extrusion. Vanéflon can guarantee tolerances up to 0,1 mm. The big stock makes for fast delivery times. If you have specific requirements, tailormade production is possible.

Compression molding

Compression molding is a forming process in which a plastic material is placed directly into a heated mold. The heat will soften the material and therefore force it to conform to the shape of the mold, as the mold closes. It is a high-volume, high-pressure method suitable for molding complex, high-strength materials.

The compression molding process allows for low-stress parts with excellent dimension, chemical and mechanical characteristics. Compression molding has the ability to mold large and fairly intricate parts. It is also one of the lowest cost molding methods. Moreover it wastes relatively little material, giving it an advantage when working with expensive compounds.

Key properties:

  • Diameter: max. 1.250 mm
  • Length: max. 150 or 300 mm
  • Low-stress parts
  • Excellent dimensional, chemical and mechanical characteristics
  • Low cost

Horizontal molding

Vanéflon has developed a new ‘horizontal compression’ molding technique. It works according to the same principles as compression molding, but applies horizontal and vertical pressure to produce shaped profiles. This results in very high-composites with no wrinkling, even on complicated geometries. After horizontal molding the rods are polished for narrow tolerances and roundness.

This high performance product offers constant material quality and uniform ultra-low residual stress due to constant pressure monitoring over the entire length. Horizontal molding makes the rods perfectly suited for high precision machined parts while offering excellent chemical and mechanical characteristics. They allow for tight and stable tolerances while significantly reducing machining scrap.

Key properties:

  • Diameter: 12,2 – 67,2 mm
  • Length: 1.000 mm
  • Tighter and stable tolerances
  • Stress-free for the production of precise machines parts
  • Excellent chemical and mechanical characteristics
  • Ground variant for processing using collet chucks
  • Available in small quantities for each filler type
  • Reduced scrap

Hot molding

In hot molding the molten flow of plastics will be maintained during the forming process for extremely fast cycle times and improvement of the component consistency and quality. It gives the operator more process control and the ability to finetune the products. Hot molding can be done horizontally or vertically. The technique is reserved for PCTE, PFA, FEP and ETFE.

Vanéflon’s optimized hot molding process and the continuous control of raw materials and semi-finished products ensures the highest quality parts with excellent chemical and mechanical properties. Materials without cracks, air entrapments and bubbles are thus obtained. Our experienced team disposes over an ever extending range of tools to deliver customized products for your specific needs.

Key properties:

  • PCTE, PFA, FEP and ETFE
  • Diameter horizontal: max. 40 mm
  • Diameter vertical: max. 700 mm
  • Length horizontal: max. 540 mm
  • Length vertical: max. 150 mm
  • Contiuous quality process control
  • Tempering options for ultra-high precision machining
  • Excellent chemical and mechanical characteristics

Extrusion molding

In extrusion molding granulates will be melted into a liquid. This liquid will then be forced through a die, forming a long tube like shape. The extrusion is then cooled and forms a solid shape which can undergo different operations (cutting, coiling …). Extrusion molding is a continuous technique. Extrusion molding provides considerable flexibility in manufacturing products with a consistent cross-section. It also has a relatively low cost compared to other molding processes. Leftover materials can be reused. Extrusion molding has the incredible advantages that there are no constraints in length.

Key properties:

  • PTFE and PTFE compounds, high performance and engineering plastics (Vespel®PAPOMPET …), and PCTFE, PFA, FEP and ETFE
  • Diameter: max. 160 mm
  • Length: max. 2.000 – 3.0000 mm
