What is PTFE?

PTFE, otherwise known as polytetrafluoroethylene, is a versatile, high-performance fluoropolymer. It has one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid material. That makes it an excellent choice in applications that require anti-stick properties or that are sensitive to wear. But that is not the only trick up its sleeve. Parts machined in PTFE show a high resistance to temperature, chemicals and even radiance. They also exhibit a high impact strength.

Thanks to its excellent chemical and physical properties, PTFE is widely found in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, automotive and chemical sector. Typical applications include PTFE coatings for heat exchangers, electrical insulation, O-rings, seals and gaskets, seats and bearings, non-stick surfaces, linings for fuel hoses… For accurate dimensions, PTFE requires special attention during machining. For instance, special holding mechanisms are necessary to account for the softness of the material.

PTFE + 15% GLASS OR PTFE + 25% GLASS

PTFE + 17% GLASS + 3% MOS2

Shows the same pressure resistance as glassfilled PTFE, but uses MoS2 as a lubricant. Molybdenum also increases hardness and decreases wear.

PTFE + CARBON/GRAPHITE 22/3

Carbon is one of the best fillers for chemical use. It features high heat conductibility and high wear and pressure resistance. Recommended for piston rings and other dynamic seals.

CARBON FIBER

Same as carbon/graphite, but with improved stiffness, reduced creep and reduced thermal expansion. Used for valve seats, bearings … Allowed for steam applications.

PTFE + 15% GRAPHITE

A compound with excellent thermal and electrical conductivity. For anti-static linings and bearings.

PTFE VFG - VX1 - MAROON

The high concentration of glass fibers, combined with the addition of inert metallic oxides make this compound your best choice, where pressure and wear resistance are of major importance. Used for seals that require very low cold-flow abilities.

STAINLESS STEEL

High compression resistance, only for low PV values. Used for seats in steam valves.

SUMICASUPER 10% EKONOL

Exceptional filler component to improve the mechanical properties without increasing the porosity. Used for lip seals, back-up rings …

PTFE + 60% BRONZE
